Day Eight: Central Park

Central Park is very different. It is kind of like the quick dive into the pool in between sauna sessions. It is the weekend reminder of why you work.

You don't even have to venture far down the deciduous paths to forget the city you left behind. And though the manmade mountains beyond the trees remind you of Monday-Friday, the noise of progress and capitalism fades rather quickly. Dogs, roller bladers and people taking naps are all around, and the world is good. It's the weekend.

I rather enjoy Central park. It's a behavioral scientist's all-you-can-eat buffet. It's a place where people don't mind to be themselves. It's kind of like Facebook before Facebook, where people go to be themselves. They publish their recreational lives for all to see, and don't really care who looks or doesn't - dance, sing and play for all to witness (Amen). As there will always be some who fall into the 'reality television' crowd and simply want an audience, I think most of the park people are genuine.

It's a perfect place for a guitar, a blanket, my woman and snacks from Trader Joe's. I lacked all of those this past visit, but it was still fun. I was there with friends.
